Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Valley Christian Church - AZ based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
God
There is one eternally existing God Who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is worthy of all glory and praise. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. As Christians we are given the privilege of calling Him “Father” and are adopted into His eternal family.
Revelation
God has revealed Himself to us in a general way through His creation. He reveals Himself in specific ways through His inspired Word - the Bible - and ultimately through His Son Jesus Christ.
Mankind
God created humanity in His image and for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creation. However, men and women broke their relationship with God by choosing to disobey their Creator’s commands. All human beings have followed them in disobedience; thus all are guilty of sin against God.
The Fall
When Adam and Eve chose to disobey God, they ceased to be what they were created to be. As a result, they and their descendants became distorted images of God. Their sin caused them to fall out of fellowship with God. All of creation as well as every man, woman, and child reflect this brokenness.
Salvation
Jesus Christ came from heaven to Earth to reconcile sinful humanity to God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died a sacrificial death on the cross to pay the just penalty for our transgressions. God raised Him from the dead and now, by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-10), He offers the free gift of forgiveness, restoration, and eternal life to all who choose to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Salvation is found in Christ alone as we respond to His invitation to believe, repent, confess and be baptized (immersed in water) in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is in baptism that we cloth ourselves with Christ (Galatians 3:27), and identify ourselves with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and receive the benefits of His sacrifice for us (Romans 6:3,4). Baptism is not a “work”, but rather an act of willing obedience to the command of Christ (Matthew 28:19). It is also in baptism that we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit into our lives (Acts 2:38).
The Church
The Church is the visible body of Christ, sent by Christ into the world to glorify God and communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19). The Church is also the bride of Christ, enjoying a deep and intimate spiritual relationship with Him. Jesus alone is the head of this body. All authority has been given to Him in heaven and on Earth (Matthew 28:18). The members of the church carry a powerful testimony to the life-transforming power of God.
Resurrection
Jesus Christ will return to Earth at a time of the Father’s choosing, just as He promised. He will raise both the righteous and the unrighteous from the dead. He will judge both the living and the dead, separate the saved from the unsaved, and will usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth. At this time all of the effects of sin and the Fall on Creation will be erased and God’s relationship with mankind will be fully restored to what it was in the Garden of Eden.
